I did have a whole male for a short time and he prompted the same
reaction in me that cats do. It was a rough week or so to make it to
his neuter appointment!

I typically just take a benadryl or zyrtec to keep it all in check, and
I don't mind that much because I have allergies to dust and mold and
grass, so I need to keep all that in check any way so it doesn't bother
me so much that I take allergy pills.

So, yes, you can be allergic to ferrets.
