APHIS: Make sure that you are going to the right site; they moved it. To
view and submit comments online:
Go to http://www.regulations.gov/
Under the Agency popup menu, select Animal and Plant Health
Inspection Service.
In the Keyword box, enter ferret.
Click Submit.
This will bring up a list including the original Docket APHIS-2005-0063.
Click on the Docket ID in the first column to see the current list of
comments. The last column contains an Add Comments button, which will
bring up the comment submission form. You may also submit documents in
MS Word, Word Perfect or other formats.
Comments submitted by mail provide greater impact, but any type of
comment is better than none!
When there click the paper icon to YOUR right of the names. Wait. It
will flicker the page you were reading, then it will bring up a blank
page, then it will bring up a smaller download as long as you have the
software for it. That way you can read the letters which are there.
Right now there are 613 people who used the AFA form letter. Those
replies are all clumped together in number 91. The total number of
comment slots are 382. Therefore, the total number of comments is almost
1,000, and there are something like 5 comments (so far) against such
changes. You will find everything from one sentence unclear notes, to
details where people tell of transport errors, witnessed conditions, the
health problems in too young kits and how they caused shelter moms and
dads, petstore workers, vets, or the purchasing families to stay up
nights and spend large amounts of money saving (or unsuccessfully trying
to save kits who who were transported too young), and more.
Because the organizations which say they represent pet stores (but
obviously have NOT been listening to the pet stores which complain about
receiving dead of dying kits) in the past have organized last minute
write in campaigns in state efforts to have minimal shipping and sale
ages it is VASTLY IMPORTANT that all of you who want to protect these
kits but have not yet written in do so now, PLEASE. We have ONLY 10 MORE
DAYS (AT ARRIVAL) FOR YOUR LETTERS TO BE IN THERE WITH APHIS.
AS A RESULT THE NEXT 5 TO 7 DAYS FOR MOST OF THE NATION (DEPENDING ON
YOUR LOCATION) ARE YOUR LAST CHANCE TO SEND ANYTHING BY REGULAR SNAIL
MAIL -- YOUR LAST CHANCE TO BE AMONG THE HEROS WHO ARE SAVING FERRETS
WITH JUST A LETTER. This is also true for replacements of letters that
were lost in the mail. I know of at least of those and both were superb
letters that need to be resent by their wonderful authors.

No Prednisolone versions that I know of have anywhere near enough alcohol
to cause a problem, but the medication concentration may have been
different so the ferret may have gotten less medication if the same
volume (ml level) was given and the medication was less concentrated,
meaning that there would not have been enough med to control the blood
sugar drop. I have encountered Pediapred in 2 mg/ ml, and read of
generics that are 5 mg/ml and even higher. Check the concentrations of
your old bottle and new one to know if that sort of change may have been
involved. Pharmacies and hospitals should alert people to concentration
and dose changes but sometimes errors or miscommunication happen.
I HAVE read of a few ferrets lost this way.
