 RE: legality in Michigan.
   This'll be vague, hold on to your hats.
 
I seem to recall hearing/reading about
Michagan legalizing ferrets recently.  I
think it was in a letter which Linda Harrah
(our ferret guru) gave to us, which we were
supposed to type in for the mailing list.
The letter talked about (then) upcoming
hearings to be held here in Cowtown, er,
columbus, OH, to discuss the viability
of ferrets as house pets.  The letter mentioned
recent victories (thats where michigan
comes in) and solicited letters from ferret owners
and vets to be sent to the health department
guy in charge of the ferret policy.
 
Of course, this all happened during the period
where my net access was about as certain as
the american economy.  So we never typed it in.
 
Anyway, I think they're legal in MI now.
