So recently poor little Pan ferret had a very bad reaction to his
distemper vaccination (Merial Purevax, too--I guess he didn't hear
about the lower reaction rates), and in the aftermath wound up with a
stress ulcer. He's taking the usual bunch of medications including
metronidazole (Flagyl), and while he is pretty willing to take all the
others, he really hates the metronidazole, as I _would_ have said all
ferrets do.

So Seti hovers around while Pan is getting his medicines, because
somebody is getting a treat and he isn't and he feels left out. Last
night while I was giving Pan his amoxycillan, I put the syrnge of
metronidazole on the nightstand next to us. Seti hopped up on the
nightstand to see what it was. I thoroughly expected him to take one
sniff or perhaps a little lick and recoil in horror. Quite the contrary!
He licked the end of the syrnge two or three times and then started
chewing on the end of it! Crazy, crazy ferret who likes metronidazole!!

So I've concluded that the way to get a ferret to like metronidazole
is to pretend that you are giving it to another ferret as a treat and
make the ferret who needs it jealous. It's the only explanation I can
think of!

(in a presumably unrelated event also last night, Seti very charmingly
scratched at the inside of his tunnel in perfect synch with Panjabi MC's
Beware of the Boys. MC Seti in the house! Wiki wiki scratch!)

"Is that my business? Well, what is my business? Do I know? Did I ever
know? Let's not go into that. You're not human tonight, Marlowe. Maybe
I never was or ever will be... Maybe we all get like this in the cold
half-lit world where always the wrong thing happens and never the right."
