Actually, I have used both wood-stove pellets and animal type pellets
like "Barn Dry" for years with no ill effects. My understanding is
that both kinds of pellets are processed at high enough temperatures
to drive off the harmful volatile components, and as I say we've never
had any problems with over 15 years and literally thousands of ferrets
through our shelter in that time.

The biggest difference that I've noticed is that the animal-type
pellets tend to disintegrate quicker into sawdust, but that's it.
