Tim,
 
A physical allergy to ferrets might possibly cause a siezure.  This can be
ruled out by test by your roomy's Dr. under controlled conditions.
 
I would bet the only fit he will have is a temper tantrum.
 
I would suggest trying to find something he wants and trade.  Nothing
makes a rival into a friend like enlisting their self interest.
