If he has the white stripe between his ears that runs from his mask ti
the back of his head it is called a blaze and he is most likely deaf.  You
can find out for sure by taking him out alone and when he isn't looking at
you, crinkle a sack, bang pot lids together or make some other startling
noise.  If he ignores it, he's deaf.  If you go to
http://www.ferretcentral.org, they have a lot of faqs and one of them is
on training and careing for a deaf ferret.
