I have found a wonderful way to protect carpet from scratching and pooping
simulataeously. I bought some plastic carpet runner from Walmart - you
know, the stuff people put in heavy traffic areas? It has a textured
surface on one side, and little carpet spikes on the other. It costs about
$2 for an 6x3 sheet - and if you put something heavy on the ends, the little
ones can't get under it. They can dig at the plastic to their heart's
content, and not do it any harm, and it wipes clean with a paper towel.
Works great!
