When I first got ferrets in 1990, I received many many questions, comments
and stares from people in the neighborhood whenever I took them out. People
thought I had a rat or a squirrel usually. Once people yelled out a car
window that I was cruel for taking a wild animal out of the wild and making
him a pet! Most people though were just curious. I always drew a crowd of
children around me wanted to pet the ferrets.

Now, more people know what a ferret is. They've seen them in the pet
stores, maybe on TV or in the newspaper and the majority are not surprised
that they are ferrets. I still do get questions like, "Are they good pets?"
"Do they use a litter box?" and "Do they bite?" It makes taking your ferret
out lots of fun.
