I sure hope this post is allowed as it's not about ferrets. (but is about
ferret tattoos) [It's fine -- a recurring question. BIG]

As with all things getting tattoo'd is a personal experience. The
following is meant as a guideline. You may find somethings vary from
studio to studio.

First of all, the best image you can have for a ferret tattoo is one of
your own ferret. Gather a couple pictures that show your ferret in a
pose you like and put them to the side. This is what your tattoo will be
based on.

Next start researching tattoo artists. Try www.bmezine.com for tattoo
info, pictures of tattoos, stories of being tattoo'd and artist names.
Check websites for artists near you. Look in the phone book. Go get
tattoo magazines or books and look at the work. Visit shops and see their
portfolio. Ask about their sterilization proceedures. Show them your
pictures and discuss what you want done.

When you've found an artist that you are comfortable with and like their
work, make a consultation appointment. You'll bring in your photos and
discuss size, color, placement. The artist will then take your photos and
begin working on a design. You'll have to come back later for the tattoo.
You will also probably have to put down a deposit at this time. Most
artist take this off of the price of the finished tattoo.

When you return for the tattoo you'll be shown the design. If it's not
what you want, tell the artist. They'll tweak it or redraw it so that it
is what you want. Remember it's forever! Depending on how elaborate you
want it to be you may have to come back or you may walk out with your
finished tattoo. Follow the aftercare suggestions your artist gives you
and you'll have an image of your fuzzie to treasure forever.

PS: Don't forget to tip your tattoo artist!
