HELP!!!!!!! I just adopted a very sweet two and a half year old female
samoyed from the Humane Society this week. I picked up Kuma on Thurs and
took her to a friends house in Minneapolis. She was groomed (yikes did she
need it) and spolied rotten with all sorts of new stuff. When we returned
to my place Friday night she made a dash for the room witht her ferrets.
The ferrets have a half bedroom ...there is a plexiglass board aheaded to
the door frame between the bedroom and living room. Need I say Kuma did not
look happy. The mild mannered little gal decided to bark and thrash about
as I tried to keep her from going over. The next thing we did was hold her
and have my friend hold the mellowist ferret. They were a good distance
from eachother..we tried to convey that they are nice creatures..don't think
she bought it. After a late night and a few tears..I think I have the
solution. My friend installed a new door knob on the bed room so I can
close it shut. I figue a couple of times a day I will put Kuma in her crate
or outside once I get that set up and let the ferrets play in the room. If
I let them play with the door closed they scratch at it. They like to see
what is going on in the room next doo. Kuma crate is on the other side of
the house...so she will not be able to see them at all. The ferrets have a
air purifier in their room so ythat hopefully will assist with the scent. I
really thought the ferrets would be a problem...but they were very calm last
night. Kuma however is another story.

I am really worried as to whether they will ever get along. I don't mind
splitting my time...but it is not ideal. I don't want the ferrets to feel
jilted nor do I want Kuma to kick into "killer mode". I am open to ANY and
ALL suggestings. I did post on a samoyed web site and got some
responses...mostly that people didn't think they wiould get along. She does
really well with other dogs and cats. They was other dogs at her previous
owners. Shortly after I posted on the samoyed site another guy posted
talking about how his 2 samoyeds went after a wild muskrat. UGH!!!! Please
email me privately as I really would like some quick responses. Thank you.

Cynthia and the furry heard:
Malan..."What is that big white fur ball?"
Jaz...."Hey its a horse"
Einney..."YAWN"
Lynk..."I want to play...play..play"
Banana..."Look a new toy"
Kuma..."lunch????" :-(
