On WNYC their news team just now had a piece about tomorrow's Health Dept.
meeting on ferrets saying that the Dept. is favoring a BAN of ferrets!!!!!
It sounds like the Board of Health might be trying to attract ferret haters
to the meeting to help them get the ban! DO NOT BECOME ANOTHER CALIFORNIA
in which those who have passed foolish rules keep fighting change just to
cover their rears and reputations, no matter how much circular reasoning
and self-referential diatribe that entails. Nip this over-regulation
inclination in the bud. This is your ONE and ONLY chance to help save
your ferrets so attend this meeting! Have your neighbors, relatives and
vets who love ferrets attend, bring photos of your kids with ferrets,
wear ferret t-shirts or buttons -- even homemade ones saying that "the
Compendium Is Right", "Respect the CDC, NASPHV, and the Ferrets They
Support", "My Kids Love Their Ferrets", or do something else positive.
Most importantly: be there in large numbers!!! If you can download the
Compendium of Animal Rabies Control from http://www.avma.org and other
pro-ferret things and politely hand them to reporters who attend the
meeting. Do what you can, or you will be DONE TO in a way that you will
hate for a long time to come and which will be far harder to change than
what exists now. This will either turn around in a GOOD way if you are
there supporting ferrets in large numbers, or it will turn in very, very
bad way if you do not-- nothing neutral is expected of the meeting.

If you love ferrets, want to have ferrets at some point, have been helped
by a ferret, have treated ferrets, have advised a child with lympho to get
a ferret to help deal with the pressures of illness, or otherwise want to
protect these critters which are safe in almost all of the U.S. and the
people in NYC who have them (at least one of whom helps you day after day)
GO TO THE MEETING!!!! Most areas are moving forward in response to the
firm data out there. Why should NYC be allowed to move backward?

After you attend write here and tell everyone in the FML about the meeting;
we all want to hear from you.

See my other letter for time and location.
