to continue and after a bit more research on my part...and I will refer

the ferret is expressly mentioned as restricted along with gerbils and
hamsters and the like...
 
permits are available however for scientific, zoo and movie making and
the like under Hawaii regs...but private ownership as pets still looks
like a no no!!!  check it out and see what you all think...
