The clear dryer hose I've seen around here (Miami) is pretty sturdy stuff.
I don't recall if it was from Sheppard & Greene, but our shelter operator's
store, "For Ferrets Only" (small plug there) carries quite a few things from
Sheppard & Green so it might be the same thing. Compared to standard,
hardware store dryer hose, the plastic on the clear hose is much thicker and
more durable.

But, even the real sturdy hose has that nasty wire sticking out at the end.
Tape works but isn't very durable. What I do is get a pair of needle-nose
pliers and make loop in the end of the wire. That in itself makes it pretty
safe, but then I roll the end of the hose back onto itself about 4 or 5
times. I don't know how else to describe this other than to say that it's
like rolling up a condom. :-) Using this method, the ends are very safe and
there's no tape to fall off, get eaten, etc.

For the ferrets,
Mike
