Decades ago we had one female (a retired breeder who came to us after a
mounting male bit through one of her eyes) who developed impacted anal
glands a lot.  We discovered that if we took a car ride up to the area of
the vet hospital that she would usually become energized enough that she
would have them let go all over me, saving us all from the need for a vet
appointment, but finally it just became too bad and got infected.
 
At that point surgery to remove the anal glands kept her alive for years
more.
