I am confused regarding what are safe distemper vacs and what are
unsafe vacs. I have read the secction in the FML-FAQ, and I am still
a bit confused. I know FERVAC is safe, and I believe that FROMM-D is
safe, however it seems that with the later there has been controvery
over side effects (?). What I want to know is if modified live canine
distemper vacs are safe in ferrets?? If so, are the above examples of
modified live vacs? Further, what are vacs that are dangerous?

Part of my trouble stems from the fact that I have recently moved from
Champaign, Illinois, where I had an excellent vet--one that I would highly
recommend! Dr. Brummet at A&E Animal Hosp. (in Urbana, IL) has a great
deal of experience with ferrets and has excellent people skills as well.
Anyway, since I have moved to St. Louis, I have yet to find a vet that seems
knowledgeable with regard to ferrets. In fact, as I have called around many
vets recommended live canine distemper vacs for ferrets. Correct me if I am
wrong, but aren't live virus vacs and ferrets a lethal combination?

Lastly, are there any ferret owners that live in the (preferably) south
St. Louis area that know of experienced vets?

Thanks,
Pat, Salome, Jezebel, and Percephone :-)
