Just a word of comfort for D'artangnon's human Mom.  You say the train to
the Rainbow Bridge picked him up sometime during the night, and he had
already left when you found him in the morning.
 
He was blest, as so many little ferrets die painful and lingering deaths,
try to find comfort in the fact that he went peacefully, in his sleep.
 
I guess that is what everyone hopes for.  We all go to sleep everynight,
not everyone wakes up in the morning.
 
Bless you, and take heart, you sound like you gave him a wonderful home,
and I am sure he knew he was loved.
