I agree with Joe.  Fox's book is REALLY heavy reading.  If you're an
average ferret lover and not medically inclined, I recommend "Ferrets,
Rabbits and Rodents - Clinical Medicine and Surgery" or as Joe mentioned,
Dr. Karen Purcell's "Essentials of Ferrets: A Guide For Practitioners" as
alternates.  Both of these are a little more comprehendable to us layman.
