Hi, ferret folks! I think we've finally won the battle against Debbie's
ferret allergy. I posted a couple of things we found that helped keep her
rash under control, but now we've found something that has eliminated it
completely!

After none of the allergy treatments we tried were completely successful,
we started trying to treat the symptom (the rash) instead of the cause (the
allergy). What finally worked is a product called "Hemp Oil Salve".
Within a couple of days of starting to use it, Debbie's rash was noticably
better. In about 10 days it was gone completely. Now, she just puts it on
a couple of times a day, and also after each time she handles the ferrets.

I suspect that there really isn't a "miracle cure" that will work for
everyone with a ferret (or other pet) reaction. It seems to be a question
of finding the thing that works best with your particular personal chemistry.
But, in case it might help someone else out there, here's the product info:

Hemp Oil Salve: contains olive oil, hemp seed oil, canola oil,
safflower oil, flax seed oil, beeswax, propolis,
                        goldenseal, comfrey, yellow dock, calendula,
                        vitamin E & gum benzoin.

        Manufacturer: The Ohio Hempery
                        14 North Court St.
                        Athens, Ohio 45701
                        614-593-5826

Debbie is enjoying our ferrets a lot more now that she can handle them and
play with them without having to worry about her allergy.
