Hello all,

My 4 year old ferret has been on Bene-Bac for 5 days, after a bout of
diarrhea, which cleared up but he is now left with some malabsorption
in his poo. He is seeing the vet tomorrow for that. He has no other
health problems so far. Yesterday was the first day without Benebac.
The day-before yesterday (last day on bene-bac) and yesterday (first
day without benebac) he had dark-yellow/orange pee. There was no
visible straining (trust me, I watch, VERY carefully) and I couldn't
tell if there is any sand in his pee when looking at it with tissues.
His belly dips in his urine when he pees on the tile so he always drips
around after he pees because it drips off his belly fur when he walks
away. There was no frequent peeing and the amount of pee seemed normal
to me. He is eating fine, drinking fine, energy level is normal for
him. His spleen is enlarged, but we are seeing the vet tomorrow for
that too. He refused to pee for me this morning and I had to leave
for work, so that is one less datapoint I can give you.

When I called the vet today about the orange pee she said that probably
it is a side-effect of the Bene-bac, and she doesn't recommend
urianalysis. Given that he continued to have the orange pee one day
post- bene-bac administration, I am not sure what to think. Did any
of you have the same experience? Could the discolored urine be a
side-effect of the bene-bac? If so, per your experience, how long
does this last?

Thank you so much for your help!

Sonia
