Kelly--
Something that we did for our insulinoma ferrets, may they rest in peace,
was to hand feed them pieces of their regular food. We feed a mix of foods,
so we'd pick out the kind of pieces that were that ferret's favorites and
feed them several pieces one at a time. It started as a necessity with the
first one because she wouldn't eat regularly enough on her own, but we saw
how jealous the other ferrets got! They'd come and try to steal pieces out
of our hands when the bowl was two feet away, because if it was handfed, it
*must* be special! In fact we stopped giving raisins to any ferret in our
house while we had ferrets with insulinoma. They would all jockey for
handfed kibbles. The other thing we offered sometimes was a single drop of
ferretone cut with olive oil. We did that rarely though, because we were
already adding a bit of ferretoned oil to some medications to get them taken
without a fight. Try out the kibble idea and see if you can turn it into a
treat. They'll get the "treat" of getting extra and pleasant attention from
you!
