We use the cheap rag rugs you can pick up for a dollar or two at Wal-Mart or
K-Mart.  We take them out and throw them through the laundry every week (or
more often if needed).  They wash and dry easily, and last through about 75
washings before they need to have "Taps" played for them.  They are thick
enough to protect little feet from the wires, but made out of a cotton/nylon
blend, so they dry quickly.
