There's only one tiny bit of carpet Maddy scratches (I have mostly hardwood
floors) and it's at the entrance of a closet. The door is always kept
closed, and Maddy wants to get in there and explore. If I left her to her
own devices she'd shred that carpet to bits in a week! Instead I've covered
the tempting part with masking tape, because years ago when I had cats I
found that they wouldn't scratch anything covered in masking tape. Maddy
has no such scruples.

She scratches and scratches, which makes an irritating noise as she slowly
works away at that masking tape. Stubborn little fuzzit! It's not too big
a deal, but still - any ideas on stopping her from scratching? When I catch
her I tell her "no!" and put her back in her cage for a few minutes, and
then she usually looses access to the entire room which offers The
Temptation. Other ideas?
