I taught my ferret to stop biting with finger-snaps to the nose.  I tried the
"nose tap" method for a while, but had to increase the sensation to a finger
 snap,
as the nose taps were seen as play rather than discipline.  He doesn't bits
at all now, however,and it only took about a month to train him to this
point...
