Ferreteers,
People have been asking me what to write to Gov Engler. Here's a letter
sent today, by Fax (yes!). Don't of course, copy it, but if the approach
fits you, use it. The tone is calm & reasonbale, and may get this letter
read.

>Dear Governor Engler,
>
>I have great respect for you and what you stand for in the State of
>Michigan. I live in Florida, but have been to your lovely state on several
>occasions. I respectfully request that you intervene in Kodo's behalf if
>the judge decides against him in the case which will be heard Tuesday at
>3:00 pm. If the judgement is against Kodo, I urge you to grant a stay of
>execution until Kodo's attorney can file an appeal, which of course he will
>do. My family, my friends, and I, love ferrets, and have been folowing
>Kodo's plight since he was taken away from his owners.
>
>There is a BIG question in my mind (and the minds of those that were there)
>whether any sort of "bite" occurred.

>The Animal Control personnel and Bay County have admitted they acted in a
>hasty fashion.
>
>If Kodo had had rabies, or been able to transmit rabies to a human being,
>he would have been dead long before now! My understanding is that he would
>have died of the disease in a period less than 10 days of being able to
>transmit it.
>
>The alleged ''victim'' was not even advised to obtain the series of rabies
>shots until 18 days after the incident!!
>
>The alleged "victim" has stated he does not claim any liability WHATSOEVER
>on the part of Kodo or his owners, Robert and Kitty Jacobs.
>
>Please let justice for this poor ferret be served in this matter! Let the
>court system work, and DO NOT LET KODO DIE UNLESS and until the system has
>been allowed to work, if it has to go that far.
>
>I can promise and assure you that if you let Kodo be assassinated, I will
>NEVER set foot in your state again. Any vacation money I spend "up North"
>will be FAR from Michigan!
>
>I thank you in advance, and hope you use good judgement, if necessary.
>
>Karen Bryder
