Well, actually they eat dead food because they kill it first.  And most
responsible snake owners will only feed what is called "prekilled" if at
all possible (although some few snakes refuse to eat anything that they
haven't killed themselves).  So in that respect they are the same as our
furry pets who essentially eat prekilled food when they munch down their
kibble.  And the ingredients of that kibble may (or may not) have been
dispatched in a way that you would find objectionable.
