I figured we needed a few good stories on the FML to help balance out the
tragedies posted recently.

I received a message on my message machine Tuesday morning. A ferret had
been found, and since they understood that ferrets were not seen favorably
in CA, they needed help finding a place for this ferret, who had been found
in their garage. They had found my phone number thru the Ferrets Anonymous
web page. (Thank you to all organizations with web pages, people do use
them).

I attempted to return the call, and left a message on their machine, giving
them a number to the ferret group in their area. All during the day I
worried about the fate of this ferret in unknowning hands. Upon my arrival
home after work, I was able to get an answer to my call. A wonderful lady
told me that they had found the owner, and the ferret was being reunited
that evening. The funny part was how many people immediately became
involved in taking care of this ferret, and finding the owner. The family
who found the ferret called as many numbers as possible, including their
friends and vets in the area. One of the vets had a report of a lost
ferret, and I believe this is how they found the owner. The lady also told
me that her sister had been making many phone calls as well. This ferret
had walked into the right garage. This family had previously had ferrets
when living out of state, so were familair with their behaviour and care.

I have not heard how the reunion of ferret and owner went, but I'm sure the
owner is thankful for neighbors such as these, who take time to look up
information and care for the ferret's welfare.

Good things do happen, we just don't hear about them as often.
