Hello Fellow Ferret Lovers:

I applaud all who encouraged Bryan - I sent Bryan a private email and I hope
that he will stay on the FML!

Thank you for the responses about Katy and her raisin "overdose". She is
back to being herself.

This is a repeated story for some of you: Baxter (border collie/lab mix)
tolerates anything and everything that Sasha (young male sable ferret) has
to dish out, and Sasha does give the dog a hard time. Sasha's favorite to
get Baxter is to sneak past the dog and steal a kibble from the dog's dish.
Baxter growls and gives pursuit, meanwhile, Sasha is just a fur blur. I can
almost hear him laughing at the dog. On occasion I have seen Baxter
actually pick up the ferret and remove him from the food dish. Katy, our
little girl avoids Baxter and vice versa. Sasha will also attack from under
the couch when Baxter is sleeping, lunging at the dog's face. Baxter
sleepily tolerates.

We have five cats, two of them are senior ladies (Tiffany and Teca), and
three are males aged three, two and one. These three cannot be trusted near
the ferrets! The ladies meanwhile tolerate the ferrets and once in a while,
Sasha will terrorize Tiffany but he never bothers Teca. They have reached
some sort of understanding. Katy will periodically nudge one of the cats to
get a howling, hissing reaction but generally she leaves both ladies alone.
The guy cats spend their time behind closed doors while the ferrets are out
and are allowed into the house only when the ferrets are back in their condo.

Meanwhile, two weeks ago our daughter rescued a kitten, about four months
old. She rough and tumbles with the ferrets as though she is one herself.
They are hilarious to watch as they scamper under/over blankets, play games
of hide and seek, race through tunnels and from room to room.

We are fortunate that Baxter is such a gentle natured dog and the girl cats
are so tolerant. The boy cats who have *never* got along with the ferrets
will be moving to a new home in a few months when our daugter moves and we
will continue to keep a close eye on the kitten as she grows.

I guess there are no guarantees as far as ferrets, dogs and cats
getting along.

Jean and her sweetheart ferret Katy (Mom, those raisins hurt my tummy), and
Sasha (but Mom, I told Katy to stash 'em not stuff 'em),
Baxter the wonderful dog (what raisins, where's the food),
Tiffany and Teca (the girl cats), and
Harley, Ditch and Nemesis (the boy cats), and the newest addition
Kitten (I think they're going to call me Madeline)
....the Fur Blur Gang....
