I just wanted to comment on the anonymous poster who ferret-proofed her
backyard:

Way to go! I wish I could do the same, but I have a picket fence.

Anyway, if anyone does let their little monsters romp outside, please
make sure they're up on their shots (especially distemper) and heartworm
medication (especially if you live in a place with lots of mosquitoes).

Anonymous stated that she was going to consult her vet about the heartworm
meds. My previous vet used the same chewable medication as is commercially
available for dogs, except in a smaller dose (i.e., she gave me the
smallest dog size and I had to cut it into quarters). My current vet
mixes up a solution that I administer via syringe into their mouths.
Either way, you have to give it to them once a month.
