Hi, Minta:

Actually, your question about removing cat urine odor from carpeting
isn't really a dumb question at all. There are many people out there
with various pets that have the same problem.

The best bet is to try a product called Nature's Miracle, available at
most chain pet stores. You can probably also get it from The Ferret
Store on the Internet. A quick fix is to use Febreeze on the area
(remember to soak the area well, to remove the odor properly).

Depending on whether you own the house or not, there is also another
possibility. If you own it, try going to your local carpet and tile
store and getting a section of remanent rolled tile and cut it to about
a two foot by two foot square. Also pick up some carpet edging (metal
strips used to cover the end of a carpet where it goes into a linoleum
area) and the nails to tack it down.

Next, get a box cutter knife and cut away the carpet in the area where
your cat goes to do her thing. Put the tile down over the area and tack
it down on all sides. When mounting it, be sure to slide the edges under
the carpeting where necessary. Finally, put the carpet edging down on
the edge where the carpet goes over the file and tack down well. You
might want to put some silicone sealer under the edging before tacking
it down, to help make the area waterproof.

After this is done, you can place newspapers over the tile, or put a
litter box in that corner (I'd recommend using a litter that includes
baking soda, or mix in a box of baking soda into the regular litter that
you use, to help obsorb any offending odors) and clean it out regularly.
If using newspapers, remember to change them daily, to prevent staining
the tile and allowing odors to build up.

Hope this has been of help! :)
