 I just wanted to alert you to the fact that some animal rights groups in New
 York are going to try to influence legislation that would eliminate the
 requirement for licensing ferrets in New York State (Bill S. 4317/A).  The
 groups (New York State Coalition for Animals and Fund for Animals) oppose the
 keeping of ferrets as pets period and will try to lobby the state to make
 ferret ownership illegal, using the New York City Health Department
 guidelines.  The ASPCA is neutral at this point.  I don't know anything more
 but perhaps some ferret people should be checking this out.  It could slip
 through with very little publicity.
