Hi everyone!
 
As some of you may remember from my last posting, Club Ferret Las Vegas was
going to be at the Grand Opening of a PetCo where Jack Hanna was going to
be making a "Special Appearance." Well, I met him all right.  Here is the
scoop!
 
Jack Hanna arrived at PetCo at 12:30pm.  His "workers" drove up in a
separate van from him with about a half dozen wild animals including 2
cheetah cubs, a porcupine, a crocodile, an anaconda and MUCH more!  When he
arrived he didn't even acknowledge all the people that were there to see
HIM!  His "booth" was set up right next to mine and the shelters booth.
Kind of Ironic huh!  After about 15 minutes of him being there, CJ (the
shelter director) and I approached him.  CJ asked him if she could have her
picture taken with him.  He said OK, so I took the picture.  When that was
done, HE started a conversation with US about ferrets.  He said that he
knows there is a lot of controversy about what he said on Larry King but
that he was misunderstood.  He said he feels that ferrets are not for
everyone and that he feels that people need to be better educated about
them.  He told us that he feels we are doing a great job with what we do
and that he appreciates someone educating people about ferrets.  So CJ said
"So you do not hate ferrets" and he said "No.  But I do not feel they are
for everyone!"
 
He is right about that.  Ferrets are not for everyone!  I wanted to talk
further with him, but he was to busy to even sign an autograph for me.  He
had no interest in what anyone around him was doing.  He ate some ice cream
and drank his water and signed his autographs and then he left.
 
Let me tell you something.  Before this whole Larry King thing I LOVED Jack
Hanna.  When I found out he was going to be with us at PetCo, I was excited
because I thought I could make a difference.  But this man is RUDE.  He sat
at a table for 45 minutes and signed autograph's.  He never once handled
ANY animals and wouldn't even make eye contact with me when we were
talking.  There was a time in my life when I would have been proud that I
had met Jack Hanna.  But now I wish I never would have met him.  I didn't
try to educate him about ferrets because the man was "to busy" to pay
attention to anything anyone was saying!
 
I see Jack Hanna as an ordinary person who is on TV with animals.  I do
not believe he is an animal lover.  He is in it for the $$$$$$.  I know I
probably let you all down by not trying to educate him, but if you would
have been there, you would have realized that he doesn't care!!!!!  It is
worthless.  Unfortunately he is an influential man.  But as for me, I know
my "Jack Hanna as a mentor" days are OVER!
 
I didn't see him on Larry King and I read very little of the posts about
the actual show.  But my fellow ferret lovers, all I can say is Jack Hanna
is not our friend!  He says he likes ferrets, but I truly feel he is not an
animal lover period!!!!!
 
As soon as I have the pictures developed I will post them on the CFLV
website and I will let you know.  I might do some picture altering first
though, like putting some horns on his head and a pitchfork in his hand:)!
