If you find appalling conditions in a pet store in the state of NJ with
regards to ferrets or other animals requiring a state permit, you may call
Paul Kalka at Fish and Game at 908-735-5450. He is a very nice man who is
in charge of all of this. Unfortunately, his department is extremely
overworked with only 2-3 inspectors in the entire state.

You may also make a report to the local Humane Society, Health Department,
and even the mayors office in the town the Pet Store is in. The USDA will
also take complaints in some areas.

Please give the facts without being overly emotional, and follow up the
phone call with a letter. CC'ing the letter to the pet store will sometimes
make them clean up their act even if they don't get inspected.
