This note is from Wanda, Mike Janke's wife. Right now she is exhausted
after a very long day and will be sending more information to share
later.

It is important that people get snail mail get well cards ready for
sending to Mike, and if you want to write a private note about how his
Miamiferret, FHL, or other work has helped save your ferret or help you
that would be wonderful. When Wanda has a hospital address ready for you
to use I will post it. Please, don't overload his email, but stick to
snail mail. If you want to have balloons, flowers, or such delivered
then those would also be appreciated.

This will be your opportunity to help a man who has probably helped
most of the FML members, and certainly has helped every single member of
the FHL where he is a co-moderator, and everyone who has ever used the
miamiferret fora, articles, or vet list. There is a great deal more that
Mike does, but he does it so modestly and so accurately that many do not
realize how many more beyond them who he helps.

Here is Wanda's note:

Friends and Family of Mike Janke

I am happy to let you know that Mike is through surgery and is strong
and stable. They wouldn't allow me to see him until 6:00pm and then for
only 15 mintues. They will be keeping him in ICU tonight (not because
he's critical, but so they can keep a close watch) and will probably be
moving him to a room tomorrow.

Dr. Levi, who performed the surgery, said he removed a very large tumor
that invaded his pancreas and intestine. He performed a Stage 10
operation (a Whipple Procedure) and was very pleased that Mike was so
strong and stable throughout the surgery and recovery process.

He is going to want Mike to be up and active as soon as possible (as
opposed to keeping him mostly sedated for several days) because this
will help with the recovery and help to avoid any complications such as
pneumonia. The doctor said I could really help with this, getting him
to move around and breathe deeply even though he will be experiencing
pain. I will be there as many hours of every day and night that they
will allow. (I'm sure it won't take long for Mike to start looking
forward to the several hours a day I go home so he can get some peace.)

We are very fortunate to be in the hands of doctors with such expertise
in this area, and we are truly blessed that Dr. Levi was available to us.

Mike and I will be in the hospital for the next 10 days, and then he will
be coming home.

Dr. Levi is optimistic and will be talking to us both in depth. I will
send frequent updates to all of you as I get information.

Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and well wishes.

Love to all from me and Mike.

Wanda
