>What do other small shelters do about liability insurance?

We just had this situation- we got our insurance through First
NonProfit Insurance http://www.firstnonprofit.com/clients_main.htm -
they have a minimum premium of 1,000$ but that is still way less than
any other animal act/entertainment type policy and we got that rate bc
we are a shelter first and exhibit the animals educationally like you
do- (you do know that you have to ahve a USDA exhibitor's license to
take any exotic - inculding ferrets- out in public to show - even to
schools, libraries etc)

Our policy is 1 million per occurrance and 3 million aggregate, 5000
medical and 1 million damage to property- another one is KennelPak but
they said they couldnt insure us with the exotics we care for-they only
do cats & dogs-

good luck!! beth

ps- we are still raising funds to pay the insurance premium too- ugh!!
but have the first installment done- whew! of course it comes the same
month we have the 235$ payment to USDA too- ugh!!! and last week we
took in 4 sugar gliders, a degu and 2 chinchillas froma shelter that
closed- but its all part of rescueing- just glad we can be here for
them!
