Hi everyone,

I've been skimming the list lately, but just had to vent to people who
will understand! I've been trying to find a ferret buddy for my Eddie,
and thought I had a good prospect on Craigslist. The initial ad was
cute, it was like the ferret was writing it and had a picture of him.
It was when I contacted the guy to get more details that I began to
wonder. He would only give me one-word answers and wouldn't volunteer
any information other what I directly asked. The first email was
something to the effect of "Boy. 8-12 months. Friendly. Around $80."
That was it. He wrote back several more times to reiterate the $80 bit.
When I said I was definitely interested but wanted to bring Eddie over
to meet his boy and make sure there were no bad fights, it was "Sounds
good." No suggestions for a time, address, anything. I went back to
check the original ad and it had been changed to basically what he said
in the first email. He emailed earlier today to say please come and get
him, otherwise his girlfriend was going to sell him to someone tomorrow
who he didn't like at all. Told him again that I couldn't give a
guarantee until I saw how the two boys got along, and that I would have
to give him a post-dated check if he wanted me to take him today, but
I was 98% sure. What appeared to be the final word, a few minutes ago,
was "The guy coming tomorrow is bringing cash. I didn't want my little
guy to go with him, but cash is cash." I found this sketchy in the
extreme. He gives the appearance of being concerned for his baby's
welfare, but it comes down to the highest bidder in the end. Couldn't
he just tell the guy no??? I don't know if he has a deadline that the
ferret has to be out of the house, like I said he wouldn't volunteer
anything. It's very frustrating! Now I'm worried about the ferret too!
I know this guy doesn't know me and doesn't know if he can trust me to
pay him, but it seems like cash-in-pocket is winning over gut instinct
that the ferret shouldn't go with this other guy. AArrrgghh!!! What
would you do?

Rachel and Eddie
