I have two adrenal ferrets. Living in Puerto Rico, surgery was no option.
I used the 4 month depot, 2000 meg shot on both of them. I ordered the
medusa from Professional Arts Pharmacy (800-832-9285) . It is now
November, the shots were given Jan. 14th so the effects have lasted almost
10 months already. Here is the Webster of Dr. Weiss that will give you
more info: http://www.ferretdoctor.com/AD-MT-overv.clients.html

Since moving to Florida, something interesting regarding the possiblity of
Lupron overdose has been observed. Rocki my male on Lupron, began showing
those very aggressive sexual tendencies again. After consultation with my
vet and also Dr. Weiss, it was determined that another dose was necessary.
This was at the end of Aug., 7 months after the first injection.

Approx. 2 weeks after the shot, Rocki became deathly ill. (The shot had
nothing to do with causing this) X-rays showed a large growth, and my vet
said he would have to open up Rocki to find out what it was or he would
die in less than 24 hrs. Rocki was toxic and having the most vile smelling
diarrhea stools.

The surgery encountered a tumerous kidney, the cause of toxicity, and also
a tumor on the intestines. His right adrenal (unfortunately could not be
removed because it was encased in the vena cava, and this vet does not
have cryosurgery capabilities) was also in tumor. Both the kidney and the
intestinal tumor were removed.

These were the reasons for the change in Rocki's personality, not a
reactivation of the adrenal. Consequently, Rocki was overdosed on Lupron
and became hypocorticosteroidal. He received well from the surgery, but
now began the battle to get him back to a normal steroid level. Predisnose
was used, first once every other day and then once a day for a month. He
is now back to every other day, as once a day was making him very hyper in
activity, almost like a child in need of retalin. We are hoping as the
Lupron effects start to lessen a bit, we will then be able to take Rocki
off the prednison also.

I hope this isn't too confusing, and if you have any questions please fell
free to e-mail me. Also you can see photos of my babies before and after
Lupron therapy on my website www.geocities.com/huronna
Just click the little ferret face that say Lupron.
