Yep... get rid of the couch and get a futon.  They make nice looking ones
so it doesn't have to look like college furniture anymore, and as a bonus,
you have an extra bed available when you need it.
 
And I think there are eyedrops made specifically for "allergy eyes".  I
don't know if they are prescription or not but you can ask your doctor.
