I am so upset that Eppy's owner is going through such a tough time and
then dealing with the death of a stray...not fair at all.  Thank you for
being such a great ferret parent/person!  However, please don't assume
that the little gal you rescued has anything to do with what Eppy is going
through.  Eppy sounds like a wonderful ferret and it is very likely and
possible that someone has taken him in and either fell in love with him or
has not seen your signs (or both).  Keep your chin up and keep searching!
I wish I could help you out.  You have certainly had some bad luck lately.
 
Regarding Animal Planet's Funniest Animals show, I saw two episodes
back-to-back this week and both had ferret segments.  The first was the
"toilet" segment (which I did not find funny) and that same episode also
had a ferret playing in freshly washed clothing (looked exactly like my
Dopey) and I just laughed and laughed.  The other episode had ferrets that
were playing in a box of packing peanuts (also very cute).  I wondered
if the "toilet" segment and the packing peanuts were sent in by the same
person because the laugh in the background sounded identical.  Yes the
ferret in the toilet was a bad idea but I *think* many of those segments
are planned, not just someone who happened to pick up a camcorder.  The
owner was right there and it didn't seem like the ferret came to any harm.
Still....
 
I would like to see more ferret segments.  In fact, I am borrowing my
brother's camcorder next weekend in the hopes of getting some good
footage.  I guess they give you $100 and a t-shirt if they use your video,
which would be a good thing to raise money for shelters!  The only thing
I cannot stand about the show is the stupid commentary and very poor
writing.  Oh well, can't have it all!
