My little baby has been out and about! Last night we went to the store.
Since she sleeps happily for hours in my backpack, I harnessed her and put
her in there, with her bedding put in too. She kept sticking her head
out...only a few people noticed!! At one point, she was down inside there,
and the whole bag was squirming. A guy in the aisle turned and said,
"Don't you just hate those errant backpacks?" I took the DervishMonster out
and showed her off; he had a friend with ferrets and was very good with
her. The security guard followed me for a bit, then approached me. I
figured he was going to tell me to get out, but it turns out he just wanted
to see her! The only idiot I got was a guy in line who asked, "Is she the
same kind of rat from that story, like Riki Tiki Tommy?" Oh, man! :-)

Dervish charmed the pants off the entire cast of my play tonight at
practice; people argued over who got to hold her while she slept! She'd
been out playing all afternoon, so I figured she'd sleep through the whole
thing, which she did once she got over the excitement of being in a new
place with new people. I let her sleep in my bag while I was onstage, and
Miles ferret-sat for me. Miles is my new romantic possibility, and on
Saturday he officially passed the Electric Ferret Acid Test by playing
with her for hours and repeatedly saying how cute she is. When he was
ferret-sitting tonight, he wouldn't leave the bag alone for a second even
though she was dead asleep. He kept offering her food (I brought her some
of hers from home in case she got hungry), and took her on a field trip
around the building in case she got bored. It was like watching someone
with a child. He's actually thinking about getting a fuzzbutt of his own
now! (A new friend for Dervish!)

For such a hyperactive little bugger, she sure calms down in public. No
nipping but a lot of cute yawns and curious glances. Dervish is great PR
for the ferret cause! She's such an adorable sable, and the way she
snuggles against people just makes them melt.

Such a little con artist. Today she stole EVERYTHING out of my roommate's
purse and hid it all over the apartment. We still haven't found it all.
(I told my roomie not to leave stuff out. I guess Dervish will train her
soon enough.)

Just had to share my giddy enthusiasm with y'all. <<sheepish grin>>
