I am forwarding this message on behalf of Nanci Frazier of Motor City
Ferrets. You may contact her directly at [log in to unmask]

fml'ers: in the last edition of the fml, my post to update on the
michigan ferrets that an owner had recently adopted from a shelter and
was now trying to sell was unfortunately followed by a message from the
original poster that the ferrets had already gone to a new home. here's
an update from this end:

kim at the kalamazoo ferret haven started trying to reach the original
owner, lisa weezul, the evening we read the message. again, these two
boys were adopted from kzoo on august 29. as of the follow up phone call
one week post adoption, everything was fine. after writing to the fml
to explain the background on these ferrets, several nice folks who had
contacted the owner wrote to me as well to let me know that they had made
contact and express their dismay to learn the critters' history. kim
finally heard from lisa last night. lisa's first comment was "i can't
believe you found out about this." lisa then told kim "oh, they went to
a new home last week." i am dubious of this statement since one of the
fml'ers spoke to lisa just friday evening and they were still for sale,
but anyway. kim of course asked for contact information for the new
owners. lisa did not have/give kim this information, so we have no idea
where the boys are tonight.

if a reader of the fml has these boys, please be responsible and contact
kim at the kalamazoo ferret haven. 616.553.9599. kzoo is not interested
in taking your new ferrets; we realize you paid for them (based on the
price lisa was quoting, you paid twice what she paid in adoption fees,
but then we don't assign a dollar value to our critters). kim simply
wants to know where the boys are to continue to follow up on their health
and welfare, an important part of the adoption process. additionally,
what if the shelter needs to contact an owner about previously adopted
ferrets? our database is only as good as our adoption clients make it,
so please do contact kim. she is an extremely nice person who will be
delighted to hear that the boys are safe and sound.

if anyone still isn't clear about what the problem was here (like the
original poster must be to have so lightly glossed over the important
issue), i'll explain. kim's rescue and my own are private home rescue
operations. everyone in my home is a pet until he/she becomes someone
elses. we do not sell ferrets to people upon demand. we have an
adoption process and are only interested in finding loving, permanent
homes for our babies. we support our adoption clients and associated
critters in any way we can for as long as need be. often adoption
clients become good friends. it's always extremely unnerving to learn
that a person you spent time interviewing and approved to adopt turns
out to be very irresponsible and the critters are sent packing for the
right price.

so again, if the purchaser of these two boys is a reader of the fml, your
call to kim would be MOST reassuring to her. we really do worry about
what becomes of those we adopt out. again, have no fear in contacting
kim...she'll simply thank you for the call and note you in her rolodex
so she can keep you up to date as we all do annually.
