You can contact ferret clubs near the part of CA you want to cross.
Most will have information on crossing safely. I have crossed for 25
years safely but it only takes one mistake to make the crossing a
horrible experience. The ag inspection unit on Hwy1 from Oregon into
CA was closed most of the time. I crossed it over 200 times. But that
was 5 years ago. Things change.

There are always alternative routes and some are scenic too. It is
worth the time to go around.
