I fell asleep last night before finding Buffy. She was not in her cage.
So I closed all the doors, and went to bed.

Early this morning I had footsteps across my head as I slept. This
happens all the time as my guys free roam. I pull the blanket over my
head, and like it cold. They walk across the blanket, across my body
and head.

Something snapped me awake. The footsteps fell across my head again. Ho
boy, was I alert now. These were not the footsteps of any of my others.
Funny how a mother knows the difference in footsteps on her head. Who
else but another ferret lover would understand.? And there it is again.
Humor of knowing such a thing.

It had to be Buffy. I was so lucky she did not dig under the blanket
first. Now she was doing just that. I peeled back the blanket in the
dark, reached over for the light, hoping my arm would not have a furry
ornament hanging from it.

I wondered how she would be... a new day. A fresh beginning. I sat up
and looked down at her as she circled around me. She struck me over and
over like those television shows of a snake striking. But she got my
hand..not my eye or the side of my face.

So tiny. I scruffed her and kissed her viper face as she tried to turn
and bite my lip. There was no blood dripping from my hand. We are doing
better.

And so began my morning.....

with the footsteps of fear.
