You'd be surprised how well ferrets can hold their own.  My ferrets beat
my dog up all the time, and my dog is a 70 lb Akita.  :)
 
On a more serious note - I wouldn't leave them alone together until you
completely trust them.  Dogs are pretty smart and pretty susceptible to
being told what to do (as opposed to ferrets for example ;).
