Hello, all.
I must say, I am kicking myself for not printing out the various duck soup
recipes when I have seen them listed here. My albino, Sugar, has been
having diarhea for the past week. He went into the vet last week and has
been diagnosed with bacterial inflammation of the bowel. He has also
sustained some liver damage (as noted via a blood test)--perhaps due to
bacterial infection. He is currently slated to be on Flagyl
(mmm...Flagyl...yuk!) for a Month! He may also have a minor insulinoma (his
blood test indicated very low blood sugar). His diarhea has not improved
since being on the flagyl and he is now showing signs of dehydration. I
have had him on soup of various mixtures (none to his liking thus far) since
mid last week. Things I have tried include:

1) Iams canned kitten food mixed with chicken broth, brewers yeast, some
baby rice cereal and chicken baby food, all blended and diluted with
water. He didn't like this very much at all.

2) Hills Science Diet Feline growth formula mixed with water (he didn't like
   this either)

3) Eukanuba Feline Response formula mixed with a can of Sustacal and diluted
with either water or pedialyte. He didn't like this, tho I think the
sugar in the Sustacal has improved his engergy level somewhat. (Anyone
have feelings about using Sustacal in soup mixtures?)

Next on the list to try is a mixture using Hills A/D as a base. I'll either
dilute it with water or chicken broth.

I have tried giving him kaopectate and pepto bismol for his diarhea-he pukes
the kaopectate and he dispises the taste of pepto.

In addition to the flagyl, I have him on 1cc 3 times a day of colloidal
silver and I am trying to get him to take some acidophilus (he hates the
liquid kind and is not particularly fond of the kind in a capsule. Haven't
been able to locate the tabluar type yet).

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I'm very worried for my
furball (he's my favorite one--he's my first ferret) He's going back to the
vet today-I think he needs sub-q fluids.

Please help me,
the worried
Stephanie
