Another ADV+ ferret crossed the bridge yesterday and way too soon for
my liking! We had the pleasure of adopting Woozel from a shelter in
November of 1998. She was a year old and a beautiful dark sable with
long tuffs on her feet. She was the last of two groups that we had
adopted. She came to us on 11-16-98 and left us on 3-16-2004, around
5.5 years old. At least she was ADV free for the first few months that
we had her.

Woozie Woo hardly ever had any physical problems even with the ADV.
Other than the normal gum problems and enlarged spleen that go along with
it she seemed pretty healthy. I figured sheb d be with us for a while
longer, however, that was not the case.

Everything was normal until when I got home Monday night she didnb t get
up at her out time so I tried to roust her and she was lethargic. At
first I thought maybe she had crashed but she didnb t act like the normal
crashes Ib m use to with Insulinoma. Rushed her to the vet, they checked
her glucose 241, and said to keep her on a heating pad, as she was cold.
This all didnb t sound/feel right and I knew something else was amiss.

Rob took first shift keeping an eye on her and got her to eat a little.
After he came to bed I could not sleep of course and got up and checked
on her a few more time during the night. She was not better by morning,
even worse and I was so afraid she was not going to make it.

I dropped her off at the vet crying, had and issue with the vet tech's
flippant attitude, and left for work because I had so much to do. I
WISH I would have stayed with her because as soon as I got to work they
called to tell me she had passed. I was soooo angry! After I got myself
together enough to drive I left work to get her and take her home and try
and regain my composure before I came back to work.

The vet said from the x-ray her abdomen was full of blood and probably a
tumor on the spleen burst. This all happened so fast and only a 3-month
break since we lost the last one.

Woozel loved to steal socks and stash them. Out of 20 some ferrets he
was the only sock stealer we have had. She also loved to crawl into the
drawers, go behind and get in the top ones, especially the vanity in the
bathroom -- ooohhh, good stuff in them. She had her little paw wrapped
around her daddy's finger and he would let her in the drawers against
mother's request LOL!

I'm keeping any eye on Chuckes to make sure he doesnb t miss her, as he's
lost 4 roomies since last June.

Woozie Woo, miss sock huntress and drawer climber I hope you are better
now and with all the others before you. Your Dad and I love you, miss
you, and are trying to get use to the fact that you left way too soon!
