Not true; each dog is different.  I adopted a 5-year-old golden retriever
collie mix from a shelter and she is very good with other animals.  I
have also had a shepherd mix adopted from a shelter when he was a puppy,
as well as a full grown sheltie adopted from a family.  All have been
very good with the ferrets, but I never leave them alone with each other
either.
 
I don't think you can generalize about dogs; they're all different.
