Well now that I'm knee-deep into ferret owner-ship (or does she own me?)
I'm starting to amass some questions. Hopefully the bounty of knowledge
regarding carpet sharks (I love that!) can help me out!

First, I "THOUGHT" Weasie is/was a sable color. That's what the paperwork
we got when we bought her says but at another pet shop I saw one of similar
color and the salesperson there said she was siamese! So, I put it to you:
Weasie is a biege color with lighter brown body markings (mostly face, but
she doesn't have a "mask", at least not yet) while her legs and tail are
almost chocolate colored. Can anyone clue me in?

[Sounds like a siamese. The "darker colour" you refer to below is
probably sable.]

We are feeding her Iams Kitten food. Good? Bad? It seems every pet store
I go into has a different recommendation (mostly driven ((obviously!)) by
what they stock their shelves with). We've always fed our cats Iams Cat
food and they're healthy as, well, CATS! We also give her a little wet
food (again, Iams canned cat food) daily. She doesn't seem too interested
in it, she nibbles it but rarely eats a lot of it. I bought a ferret
liquid vitamin that goes in her water. Good idea? Bad idea? Give it to
her every day? Every few days? The instructions say every day but is it
really necessary? At this point she's approximately 8-9 weeks old.

Litter for her litter pan. I've heard different views on this too. One
source said it MUST be dust free, another said regular cat litter is
fine and still another recommended the green pellet (I forget the brand
name at the moment) litter. Is the non-dustless kind a problem? Are
we looking at respiratory problems down the road?

Those are my main questions/concerns at the moment. We're going to the
Vet in April for her second distemper shot and exam. Hopefully the Vet
has been brushing up on ferrets now that they're taking the state by
storm!

I'll just add that We (the whole family) are hopelessly hooked and already
planning on adding another ferret to the family in the not so far off future.
Definately another female, probably the darker color with the racoon-like
mask. We've already got a name for Weasie's future companion, "Farah".

Well, this is already long-winded enough to I'll close for now. I sent
for the Ferret FAQ, hopefully between that and the helpfulness of the
more informed I can keep my "carpet shark" on the long road of health and
happiness!

Thanx (in advance) to all!
