I have been "lurking" a while and reading everyone's post. Since many
of you seem so much more knowledgable than I do, I thought I'd ask your
advice. I have a 6 1/2 year old ferret named "Stinky" (I know, my
husband's idea.) who was recently diagnosed with insulinoma. I live in a
rural area of WV and there are no specialty vets around here. My vet, in
fact, is a large animal specialist. However, he recently hired a new,
younger lady vet who seems willing to do research and learn about ferrets.
She had planned to do surgery and after reading and research, decided
that Stinky was too old. She suggested we try drug therapy instead. At
present, Stinky is taking prednisone. She is a very picky eater and
refuses to eat much of anything but Purina cat chow, although she has been
offered every type of ferret food I can buy. I started giving her 8-in-1
ferretvite, which she actually likes and eats out of the tube and she has
gained some weight. Is there anything else we can do for her? My family
(especially my husband) is very attached to Stinky. She is his baby.
(So he says.)

Thanks in advance for any help.
Lisa, Cassie, Bob, and Stinky
