Why Do Ferts Spin?

General question:
 
I've noticed that my ferts LOVE to spin inside tubes.  What is that for?
I know that crocodiles and alligators do this as well for the purpose of
tearing meat off their kill.  Is this why ferrets spin?
 
Does anyone know?
